Summerhill Pyramid Winery
20 Destination Wineries in the Okanagan Valley
Founded by former New York developer and environmentalist Stephen Cipes, Summerhill is one of the early pioneers of the Canadian wine industry, and remains one of the most visited wineries in the Okanagan Valley. The winery is most renowned for its Cipes sparkling wines, which win multiple awards every year. Among those in the know, Summerhill is equally celebrated for its innovative organic approach to winemaking. Much of their wine is aged in a large white pyramid, and the Cipes believe ‘pyramid power’ lends better taste and quality to the finished product.
The winery itself stands on a slope overlooking the lake and downtown Kelowna off in the distance. The signature pyramid shines in the Okanagan sun, while nearby a giant sparkling wine bottle pours an endless stream of bubbly into an equally large champagne glass.
Organic extends to cuisine as well; the Sunset Organic Bistro offers an ever-changing selection of locally sourced, organic menu items. It’s a great location for whiling away a summer’s afternoon.
